EAL
Our school is very proud of its diversity. About two-thirds of our children and families speak a foreign language as their first language or in addition to English. We are aware of 34 different foreign languages being spoken at the moment.
We welcome all children and families with an additional language to the school. We can help with completing the necessary forms and assess the children’s needs and the level of English of each family.
We support children with EAL with their learning in class. For children who are very new to English we hold special groups each week to help them to learn more English and to help them understand some of the words used in their work in class.
The children also learn a lot from the other children in their class and soon pick up the basic words and phrases. Children who speak English as a first language love to learn and practise simple words from the language of the new children!
We are proud members of the Learning Village. This year so far we have achieved over 200,000 points by our pupils with EAl accessing the course and content. See here for more details.
