Wellbeing for Staff

Wellbeing and reducing workload are key priorities for HEART Academies Trust. This document outlines how this is addressed at Shackleton Primary.

Whole school PPA: 

  • School closes at 1pm on a Friday
  • SLT & SENCO available, PPA with year group colleagues
  • Consistency of adult in the classroom (LSAs cover short-term absence and additional CPD)

Assessment reporting 3 times a year: 

  • Termly
  • Focused on raising attainment of focus group children

Well-being day: 

  • One day of choice (subject to calendared events) to take as paid holiday

Half day holiday: 

  • In lieu of running a club for a half term

Career development: 

  • Actively encouraged to source CPD (funded wherever possible) 
  • Supported/mentored through NPQs, LSA qualifications, QTS etc. 
  • Mentors/coaches and supervisors provided for staff new to role
  • Variety of opportunities for whole school responsibility experience

In addition, the Trust provides the following for all staff members across all schools:

Free gym membership: 

  • Use of Bedford Academy gym 

Accommodation to let: 

  • Bedford Academy school house available for shared living

Free Breakfast: 

  • Cereal and fruit available all day, every day
  • Hot breakfast on INSET days

Staff forums: 

  • Staff representation to the CEO and core Trust team, termly.
