Year 1 - Chopin & Lowry
These are some of the things we will be learning about this year
How to help your child at home
Please read regularly with your child and remember to put a smiley face in their reading record (your child reads every day
in RWI, their home reading books get changed once a week)
Play games where you sound out words and ask your child to work out what it is or write it on a post it
During this year, the children will have the opportunity to write in many different styles such as writing fairy tales, letters, labels and posters. We will be focusing on children using the sounds they have learnt to write words and sentences. The children will be listening to lots of different style stories based around the topic and will have many opportunities to act them out using small world, puppets or the role play areas.
We are going to be very busy in Year 1 this year and have lots of new things to learn about!
The children will be using and applying their basic number skills such as ordering, finding one more/less, addition and subtraction, odd and even numbers, doubling and halving and developing their knowledge of number bonds.
Creative Learning Journey
In the Creative Curriculum this year the children will be carrying out a range of activities. These may be independent or supported by an adult.
The Creative Curriculum develops skills related to Science, Art, Design, Humanities, Geography and Music.
On Friday of topic week at the end of each half term you will be invited to come and celebrate with us and share some of the wonderful work we have produced.
